Benalmádena Cable Car and Others in Andalusia: A Convenient Bird’s-Eye View

The cable car is always an interesting tourist attraction that appeals to children and adults alike, as it offers spectacular panoramic views of the surroundings, usually natural. Therefore, in this post, we review the Benalmádena Cable Car and others you can enjoy if you are planning to travel to Andalusia soon.

Benalmádena Cable Car: The Cable Car of the Costa del Sol

As expected, the Costa del Sol features a cable car: the significant elevation difference between the coastline and the mountains rising just a few kilometers away makes such an infrastructure ideal. Therefore, riding the Benalmádena Cable Car is the best way to glimpse this spectacular tourist destination at a single glance.

The Benalmádena Cable Car begins its journey in the urban center, next to Tivoli World, and ends at Mount Calamorro. In total, the journey covers about 3 km and ascends over 750 meters, completed in approximately 15 minutes.

Gibraltar Cable Car

Although Gibraltar is not part of Andalusia, it is perfectly integrated into the Andalusian coast, at one end of the Bay of Algeciras. Precisely for this reason, we organize excursions to this British colony, allowing you to discover its attractions and unique features. One of these is its nature reserve, located at the top of the Rock, which you can reach by means of this cable car. In this case, the journey is somewhat shorter: it starts next to the Alameda Gardens and completes its ascent of over 650 meters in approximately five minutes.

Sierra Nevada: Chairlift and Gondola Lift also in Summer

Finally, the other infrastructure comparable to a cable car in Andalusia is the ski lifts at the Sierra Nevada ski resort, in Granada. Of course, if you have a ski pass during the winter season, you can use them freely. But when the snow disappears from its slopes, the option to ride these high-altitude transport systems also becomes available. Both lifts are usually operational during the summer season and offer breathtaking views of this National Park, home to the highest mountain on the Iberian Peninsula: Mulhacén (3479 m a.s.l.).

This cable car does not reach quite as high, but it is by no means short: the Borreguiles Gondola Lift goes from 2149 m a.s.l. to 2683 m a.s.l., while the Velta Chairlift goes from 2690 m a.s.l. to 2915 m a.s.l.

Other Projects

Furthermore, during Expo ’92 in Seville, there was a cable car at the La Cartuja site, which was later removed. Currently, in addition to the Benalmádena Cable Car, the Gibraltar Cable Car, and the Sierra Nevada lifts, other projects are under consideration, such as another cable car in Sierra Nevada.

What is certain is that Andalucía Exclusiva can arrange your experience on the Benalmádena Cable Car or the other two, should you desire. And we will combine this tour with other services from our agency, such as private vehicle or accommodation, according to your preferences.
