What is the Sefarad Card and where to obtain it

The Network of Jewish Quarters of Spain, Caminos de Sefarad (Paths of Sefarad), is an association that seeks to maintain and disseminate the Jewish legacy throughout the country through various initiatives. One of these is the Sefarad Card, a highly useful card for travelers visiting any of the cities adhering to the program. And in Andalusia, there are three: Córdoba, Jaén, and Lucena. Therefore, in this article, we explain what it is, how much it costs, and where to request it.

What is the Sefarad Card and what is its purpose?

The Sefarad Card is the loyalty card of the Network of Jewish Quarters of Spain. In the association’s words, its objective is to “make trips to the Network’s destinations more advantageous and pleasant” through discounts and promotions on various services. As you can see on the card, it is part of the so-called RASGO Program, whose acronym provides clues as to where you can use it: Restaurants, Accommodations, Signage, Tourist Guides, and Cultural Offerings.

To be more specific, this is a list of the advantages offered by the Sefarad Card:

  • Discounts at participating museums. Some are municipally owned, and others are private.
  • Special offers at establishments adhering to the program
  • Subscription to the “Sefarad al día” newsletter, which provides information on tourism news related to the Jewish legacy in each of the cities that form the Network
  • Prize draws

Furthermore, the Sefarad Card is a genuine guarantee of quality and respect for Jewish culture in Spain, as establishments that are part of the RASGO Program must meet a series of conditions to be included. For example, in the case of restaurants, they must have a “stable offering of dishes based on Sephardic cuisine on their menu” and respect “the basic dietary rules of Jewish Law.” Equivalent requirements apply to adhering accommodations, guides, and cultural centers.

Where to request it and how much it costs

One of the advantages of the Sefarad Card is that anyone can access it. In fact, it can be requested from home by filling out a simple form and indicating your address as the delivery location. And if your trip is very soon or you are already on it, you can request it at the tourist office in the Network cities.

Additionally, another important advantage is that it is free: it has no cost, not even for postal delivery to your home. Therefore, unlike other loyalty cards in the tourism sector, you won’t have to calculate whether it’s worth it or not: the Sefarad Card is worthwhile, even if used only once during your entire trip.
