Nature and artistic lighting come together in the light show at the Alcázar of Córdoba, also known as the Alcázar of the Christian Monarchs. The outdoor gardens are not only evocative during the day, but also at night thanks to this show, where lights of different colors and effects are projected onto their elements. In this post, we share more details about this experience, which will be enjoyed by children and adults alike.
What is the light show at the Alcázar of Córdoba?
The light show at the Alcázar of Córdoba is popularly known as the Magical Nights at the Alcázar. It is a light and sound show that takes place at the end of the day; through artistic lighting in various colors, the natural and architectural elements of the gardens are filled with color and music.
Water plays a leading role in the show, appearing in the various ponds and through the fountain jets, which create artistic figures to the rhythm of the music. The backdrop consists of the walls and towers of this historic construction, which served as a residence for Roman and Visigothic governors and the epicenter of power during the Caliphate of Córdoba before becoming a fortress for Christian monarchs.
Since the spring of 2022, the show has introduced new features, unfolding a new show concept. Since then, the production company in charge of the show has been Letsgo, which has built its prestige with successes such as the musical and visual show at the Royal Botanical Garden in Madrid, the Pedralbes Gardens in Barcelona, and the Oceanogràfic in Valencia.

Where is the Alcázar and how to get there
The so-called Alcázar of the Christian Monarchs of Córdoba is located in a privileged setting: in Plaza Campo Santo de los Mártires, at its intersection with Caballerizas Reales, Amador de los Ríos, and Santa Teresa Jornet streets. That is to say, just a few meters from the city’s main tourist attractions: the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba, the Roman Bridge over the Guadalquivir River, and the Jewish Quarter.
Therefore, if you are staying in the center, the most convenient way to arrive is on foot. Those who prefer the bus can take lines 3 or 12, which stop right at the entrance. It is also possible to travel by taxi to this light show at the Alcázar of Córdoba, as bus frequencies are lower at night.
When to see it
At the time of writing this post (February 2022), the light show at the Alcázar of Córdoba remained suspended due to the pandemic. However, its reopening was planned for the following months. Therefore, we recommend inquiring at the city’s Tourist Office or visiting the monument’s ticket office, where they can provide up-to-date information about the show.
