The list of unique plans for leisure time in Andalusia is extensive. To the three surprising activities we listed in this other post (skiing, surfing, and horseback riding), we add three more here. The best part is that they can be enjoyed by both locals and tourists from outside the region or even from abroad. We also remind you that in our Experiences section, you can find other unique activities to enjoy here, led by the best professionals. So we can say one thing with absolute certainty: it will be impossible to get bored!
Flamingo spotting at the Fuente de Piedra Lagoon
Ornithological tourism or birdwatching is one of the star activities for spending leisure time in Andalusia. The strategic location of its wetlands makes the region a privileged spot on the migratory routes of large birds. And while Doñana National Park is the most famous, and deservedly so, there are many other places of great interest for spotting these special animals. The best example is the Fuente de Piedra Lagoon, in the Antequera region. It is a Nature Reserve, a Ramsar site, a Special Protection Area for Birds (SPA), and a Special Area of Conservation (SAC).
Its inhabitants are unaware of these protection statuses, but they move here with complete naturalness. Above all, the nearly seventy cataloged bird species, and especially the greater flamingos, whose population numbers in the tens of thousands. The bird ringing is particularly moving; it takes place in March or April during breeding years, which occurs here when rainfall is generous. However, the optimal period for observing them is until July, during the nesting season.

Astronomy tourism, another proposal for leisure time in Andalusia
If you prefer stargazing over birdwatching, astronomy tourism is another of the most interesting plans for your leisure time in Andalusia. Among all the suitable locations, we can highlight the Calar Alto Observatory, in the Sierra de los Filabres in Almería. It is one of the largest in Europe, and fortunately for astronomy enthusiasts, it organizes guided tours and activities where it is possible to use its enormous and imposing telescopes.
Sleeping in hammocks 100 meters above the ground
In the Axarquía region, east of Málaga city, lies the beautiful municipality of Comares, one of the province’s white villages. Surrounded by beautiful green hills, it is easy to feel “as if in heaven” there. But in this case, literally: the municipality has a zip line over 400 meters long, which is a spectacle for adventure sports lovers. But the most surprising experience you can have on this cable is sleeping. Or at least, relaxing… if you don’t have a fear of heights: relaxation services are offered here, suspended 100 meters above the ground in specifically designed hammocks. You will feel as if you are levitating in the air!
These are just three proposals to enjoy your leisure time in Andalusia, especially if you are traveling. Whatever your case may be, our agency can organize any activity within a broader program. Contact us and tell us what you need!
