The historic center

summarizing three thousand years of Córdoba

The historic center of Córdoba fits almost entirely within its ancient walls: narrow streets of Andalusi origin, squares with orange trees, patios that peek out onto the street in spring, and buildings that have changed function and owner more times than can be counted.

Crossing the Roman Bridge over the Guadalquivir, with nearly two thousand years of history behind it, is the best way to understand where it all begins. From there, the route can take you to the Alcázar of the Christian Monarchs, a medieval fortress with terraced gardens and ponds, or deep into the Jewish Quarter, with the Calleja de las Flores and its flowerpots hanging from whitewashed facades.

In each section, different layers of the city’s history—Roman, Visigothic, Caliphal, and Christian—coexist without any completely erasing the previous one. With a private guide who knows every corner, you decide on the go how much time to spend at each site and which stories you want to hear in more detail.

What you will discover on this

private tour of Córdoba

Puente Romano de Niebla

Roman Bridge

Built in the 1st century BC and remodeled over the centuries, it crosses the Guadalquivir to the Calahorra Tower. From the center of the bridge, you get one of the best views of the Mosque-Cathedral, with its buttresses peeking over the river. A great place to start understanding the scale of the city.

Jewish Quarter and Calleja de las Flores

The old Jewish quarter preserves a labyrinthine layout of narrow streets, with the Calleja de las Flores as one of its star corners: geranium pots hanging on whitewashed walls and, in the background, the tower of the Mosque-Cathedral framed between the walls.
The beautiful Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos (Alcazar of the Christian Monarchs) in Cordoba, Andalusia, Spain.

Alcázar of the Christian Monarchs

A fortress built in the 14th century over earlier remains, with towers, terraced gardens, and ponds that reflect its walls. It was the residence of the Catholic Monarchs during part of the Reconquista, and also the seat of the Tribunal of the Inquisition for several centuries.
Square of Spain (Plaza de España) with the Church of Saint Bartholomew in Montoro, province of Cordoba, Andalusia, Spain

San Bartolomé Chapel

A small gem of Cordovan Mudejar art, with plasterwork and tile decoration known to few visitors. Its small size contrasts with the richness of its details, helping to understand how different artistic traditions coexisted in medieval Córdoba.

Cordovan Patios

In the neighborhoods of San Basilio and Santa Marina, many houses open their interior courtyards to the public, filled with flowerpots, tiles, and central fountains. Although the Patios Festival is in May, some remain open the rest of the year: it is one of the city's best-preserved traditions.
Por qué estas visitas guiadas en Córdoba son distintas

Plaza de la Corredera

A porticoed square in the Castilian style, unusual in Andalusia, which at different times has served as a bullring, market, and place for public executions. Today it preserves its food market and is one of the spaces where everyday Córdoba is best appreciated, away from the monumental circuits.
