Andalusia&#8217;s economy is a major engine for the entire Spanish state. Specifically, it is the third largest contributor: this autonomous community contributes approximately 13% to the country&#8217;s total GDP, only behind the Community of Madrid and Catalonia. Within Andalusia, the province with the most weight is <a href=\"https:\/\/andaluciaexclusiva.com\/en\/destinations\/seville\/seville-city\/\">Seville<\/a>, accounting for nearly 24% of the regional GDP, followed by <a href=\"https:\/\/andaluciaexclusiva.com\/en\/destinations\/malaga\/malaga-city\/\">M\u00e1laga<\/a>, with about 20%. At the other end, <a href=\"https:\/\/andaluciaexclusiva.com\/en\/destinations\/jaen\/jaen-city\/\">Ja\u00e9n<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/andaluciaexclusiva.com\/en\/destinations\/huelva\/\">Huelva<\/a> are the least dynamic, with approximately 7% and 6%, respectively.   <\/p><p>Andalusia is a fundamental region in some strategic sectors of Spain, both domestically and internationally. For example, agriculture, which has a greater weight here than in other Spanish regions. In fact, some of Spain&#8217;s star products, exported in huge quantities to other countries, are cultivated and produced here, such as <b>olive oil<\/b> and <b>garden produce<\/b> (fruits and vegetables). The provinces of Ja\u00e9n and Almer\u00eda are particularly important in this regard. The primary sector, as a whole, contributes about 5% to Andalusia&#8217;s total economy, which may seem small but is much more than in other Western regions, where this sector has been reduced to a minimum.    <\/p><p>The sector we are concerned with, tourism, also holds a prominent place within the economy of Andalusia and Spain as a whole. Let&#8217;s remember that, technically, spending by foreign tourists on Spanish soil has the same effects as a commercial export. And in this sense, Andalusia exports a lot: <b>it is the fourth autonomous community that receives the most foreign visitors<\/b>, only behind the island communities (Canary and Balearic Islands) and Catalonia. Specifically, around 13% of tourists who visit Spain do so in Andalusia.   <\/p><p>Historically, the industrial sector has also had significant weight in Andalusia&#8217;s economy, mainly due to <b>mineral processing<\/b>. Currently, this is decreasing, but it still stands out for its <b>metallurgical<\/b> and <b>chemical production<\/b>, as well as the manufacture of glass, ceramics, or cement, among others. Furthermore, it is beginning to exploit its great potential in <b>renewable energies<\/b>, particularly solar and wind power, with enormous farms and production fields.  <\/p><p>Finally, the significant weight of Public Administration in terms of employment within Andalusia&#8217;s economy deserves special mention. Firstly, unemployment, as this autonomous community often shows unemployment figures above the Spanish average (between 5 and 10 points higher). <\/p><p>Nor are the figures regarding the purchasing power of Andalusians (around \u20ac18,500) more encouraging, as it is usually lower than the average for their compatriots (around \u20ac25,000 annually). And it is especially painful when compared to Madrid residents (\u20ac33,800), Basques (\u20ac33,000), Navarrese (\u20ac30,900), and Catalans (\u20ac29,900), according to INE data for 2017. <\/p><p>Nevertheless, and despite everything mentioned here, it can be said that <b>life in Andalusia is good.<\/b> This is because, although salaries are lower and unemployment figures are higher than the Spanish average, the cost of living is also lower. According to recent studies, if 100 points represent the average cost of living in Spain, in Andalusia the figure is approximately 88, while in other regions like Madrid or Catalonia, that figure is above 110.
